Blogging for Business or Pleasure?

ChooseThis is an important decision you must make. There are two methods of using WordPress (WP) for a blog. One gives you a free blog managed by the developers of the WP software. The other is to download the free software onto your own web hosting account. But which one should you use? It all depends on what you want to do.

WordPress.COM for free blogging

If you’re just wanting to blog about topics that interest you and you don’t have your own web hosting account, then using a free account on WordPress.COM is perfectly fine.

WordPress.ORG to build your website and blog

If you want to create a blog for your existing website (business or personal), then you should download the free WordPress software from WordPress.ORG. The reason you should host the blog on your web account is that every time you post to your blog it attracts the search engine crawlers to re-index the site where the blog was posted. This is very beneficial to your search engine rankings and is a wise SEO strategy. If your blog is hosted on the WordPress.COM site, it attracts the web crawlers to that site and your main website gets no SEO benefit from it.

You should also use this downloaded software if you want to use WP to build your website with Content Management (i.e.: you have direct access  and control of your site’s content). Just choose your WP theme wisely, and there are thousands of themes out there, some free and some available for a one time fee.

Do I Need to be a Techy to Create my Own WP Site?

For basic set up and work, perhaps not. But there are a lot of plugins and settings you should implement to get the most out of your WordPress site. And if you need customization of a pre-existing theme, or you want a custom theme created for you, then you need a good web designer and developer team who can create a site that meets all your needs.
